How Does an HDTV Work?

A 72 inch HDTV is the new technology that is improving in standards day by day. They are designed to display roughly two million pixels per frame of a moving image. The analog broadcasting technology was earlier used by the 72 inch HDTV but now the use of digital broadcasting has increased considerably with the video compression techniques.

They are available in various sizes and different resolutions based on the technology used. The number of frames or the pixel resolution of a 72 inch HDTV is determined by the scanning technology used. There are several scanning methods for the clarity of the image and the most used method is the 1080p technique. In this technology, the 72 inch HDTV contains 1080 vertical lines and the letter p denotes that the scanning method used is progressive. The interlacing of the frames which result in the motion effect of the still picture can be avoided with the help of this technology. The resolution of a 1080p 72 inch HDTV is given by horizontal pixel representation by the vertical pixel representation. Mostly the horizontal representation is omitted while talking about the technology being used. There is also another scanning technique apart from the progressive scanning and it is represented by the letter 'I'. It is commonly known as the interlaced scanning technique and was being increasingly used by the previous versions of the flat panel displays.

One other factor that the HDTV broadcasting depends on is the frame rate which means the total number of video frames changing per second. This term is more common in the progressive scanning but in case of the interlaced technology the term used is the number of fields per second. The HDTV displays use the color combinations in terms of red, blue and green colors. Earlier they used 8 bits to represent each color and together they formed only 24 bits on the whole. This constituted to about 17 million of color combinations which determines better picture quality. Recent studies revealed that scientists have designed the chip used in the HDTV in a way that the colors can be stored in the bits of tens. The total number of bits being used here would be about 30, as it is 10 for red, 10 for green and 10 more for blue color. The combinations of these numbers formed about one billion different colors in the palette and hence would provide better picture definition. This feature is not available in all the models of HDTV and hence a small research is mandatory to know whether this is available in the desired model. The linear picture resolution and the display of great details by the HDTV have left standard definition televisions way back in the race. The broadcasting standards used by the HDTV have set an aspect ratio of 16:9 there by giving better picture resolutions without the use of letterboxing and anamorphic stretching. There are several different types of media which make the use of high definition television systems.
